Vinyard named as DEP chief

Governor-elect Rick Scott named Herschel Vinyard, a Jacksonville shipyard executive, as the new secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.



The appointment drew praise from the business community and concern from environmental groups. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Cabinet and state Senate.



Vinyard has practiced environmental law and most recently has been business operation director for BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards.
