The 2nd Annual Northwest Florida Brownfields Workshop is scheduled for Aug. 13 at the Washington County Agricultural Center in Chipley, FL. The workshop is sponsored by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Northwest District and the West Florida and Apalachee regional planning councils.

The program invites participation from public and private sector developers, realtors, engineers, planners, environmental consultants, attorneys and others interested in opportunities associated with brownfield redevelopment efforts.

The state’s brownfield program facilitates redevelopment and job creation by utilizing economic incentives to encourage the use of private revenue to restore and redevelop sites, create new jobs and boost local economies. This program empowers communities, local governments and other stakeholders to work together to assess their end-use development needs and determine a cleanup strategy that minimizes regulatory costs and maximizes economic incentives while protecting individuals and the environment from site pollutants.

The workshop includes panel discussions on the technical aspects of the brownfield program, as well as funding mechanisms and incentives.
