Corps awards contract for dike rehab in Glades County

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, awarded a contract to replace a water control structure in Glades County as part of the ongoing Herbert Hoover Dike Rehabilitation project.
The corps awarded the contract to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. of Orlando. The $17.3 million contract covers replacement of the HP-1 water control structure near Lakeport. The work involves removal of the existing single barrel, 2.5 foot diameter culvert and construction of a new 5 foot box culvert water control structure.
Structure HP-1 is a Herbert Hoover Dike tributary culvert located on the Harney Pond Canal near Lakeport in Glades County. The culvert is a key piece of the risk reduction measures as the corps continues the rehabilitation of the Herbert Hoover Dike.
The Corps began a program to address the 32 federally-owned water control structures in 2011 as part of its ongoing rehabilitation efforts around the dike.
Of the 32 water control structures, 28 culverts have been identified for replacement. The corps has replaced nine culverts while 18 culverts are now under contract for replacement with one remaining culvert replacement in the design phase.
