Two years ago, close to 50 representatives of environmental NGOs, government entities, private businesses and educational institutions, joined forces and, together, implemented the Inaugural Biscayne Bay Marine Health Summit, a project of the Biscayne Bay Marine Health Summit Steering Committee.

The purpose of that summit was to initiate discussions regarding the ongoing challenges the bay was experiencing. This initial effort was a great success, attracted close to 270 attendees and produced a comprehensive report: The 2017 BBMH Summit Proceedings.

Now, after two years of meetings and planning sessions, we will come together for a second summit: The Action Summit, which will be held, once again, at FIU's Biscayne Bay Campus on September 20th. This time, the Steering Committee has a greater and more aggressive vision in sight: to initiate efforts toward the creation of long-term, sustainable Biscayne Bay environmental health initiatives with financial and political support needed to restore and maintain the health of the bay.

The Summit's ultimate goal is to support the creation of a plan of action focusing on the design of an enhanced Biscayne Bay Best Management Practices (BMP) Plan. The BMPs will be focused on the identification of specific practices, or a combination of practices, to include scientific, technological, institutional and economic considerations, identified as effective and practicable means of preventing or reducing the amount of pollution generated by point sources and non-point sources of pollution throughout the Bay.
